A new study done by The Ladders revealed that a whopping 39% of job-seekers were immediately eliminated by recruiters because they did not submit a cover letter. And these were not kids fresh out of college entering the job market for the first time who made this deadly mistake. The survey of 500 recruitment professionals which was conducted in the early part of April 2009 found out the following facts about CL’s :
Respect the Process: a whopping 39% of recruiters (that’s almost ½) have eliminated a job candidate because they DID NOT include a Cover Letter- that should tell you just how important this part of the job application really is!
Recruiters Agree Cover Letters are Vital: 88% of recruiters said every job candidate should include one as part of their resume package.
Half of Job Hunters Are In The Dark: Only 53% of Executive-level applicants actually include a cover letter.
